“I want to learn magic – says the girl…” With these words the story of Paolo Coelho starts. It is about the young irish girl, Brida O’Fern, which several days had, in reality, been a guide of the author on the road to Rome (as known, in 1986 P.Coelho passed the Path of Santiago). This story is written from the words of Brida herself: …it is very unusual experience, and barely can serve to someone else.”

The action of the book starts in Dublin. Searching the Magician Brida goes to small town located in hundred and fifty kilometers from the city, and then – to the forest and mountains. After he met and talked to the Magician he agreed to teach her Traditions of the Moon. As the book says, Tradition of the Sun relates to the knowledge of everything around us, and Tradition of the Moon – to the time and secrets of everything laid in our memory. “The Magic is the bridge through which the one can pass from visible world to the world which is invisible”. The first lesson taught to Brida turned out the night spent in loneliness in the forest depth among stones. She roamed in the forest, cried and called for Magician. She wanted to escape but there were no one around. Then, having read a prayer and understood fatuity of her efforts she leaned back against a stone and fell asleep. When she awoke she saw the sun. From the stone she saw the city and went through the forest to the bus station. She walked, cried and sung a songs… Meanwhile Magician stayed leaning back against a tree and watched how her delicate figure moved on. In the course of the book Brida learns secrets of magic, traditions of her ancestors, visits her past, roams in another world and becomes known that she is a witch – and always been in the past – but having a Gift.

It’s already the third book of P.Coelho which I read (the first were “Alchemist” and “Magician Diary”). The cover and the title of “Brida” brings me the thought about mysticism. I am not a lover of books on magic and mysticism, neither I watch horror movies and don’t understand Halloween. I thought of reading it just because I liked “Alchemist”. “Brida” is written delicately – you can easily switch to the reading and forget about daily rush. As in previous books, the author moves from everything material and lead the reader to the world of feelings and knowledge of himself.

     «Я хочу научиться магии, - промолвила девушка...» Так начинается рассказ П.Коэльо о молодой девушке, Бриде О’Ферн которая, в реальности, несколько дней являлась его спутницей по дороге в Рим и направляла его шаги.(как известно, в 1986 году П.Коэльо прошел, как паломник,  «Дорогой Сантьяго») Эта история была записана со слов самой Бриды: ...это очень своеобразный опыт, и едва ли он сможет пригодиться кому-нибудь еще.»

     Действие книги начинается в Дублине. В поисках Мага Брида отправляется в городок на окраине, в полтораста километрах от города, затем – в лес и горы. После встречи и разговора с Магом он соглашается обучить ее Традициям Луны. По книге, Традиция Солнца относится к познанию всего что нас окружает, а Традиция Луны обращается ко времени и тайнам того что заключается в нашей памяти. «Магия – это мост по которому можно из видимого мира перейти в мир незримый». Первым уроком для Бриды оказалась ночь проведенная в одиночестве в лесной глуши среди скал. Она блуждала по лесу, звала Мага, хотела выбраться, но вокруг не было ни души. Тогда, прочитав молитву и поняв бессмысленность своих действий она прислонилась к скале и уснула. Проснувшись, она увидела солнце. Увидела со скалы городок и отправилась через лес к автобусной остановке. Она шла по лесу, громко кричала и распевала песни... А Маг в это время стоял прислонившись к старому дереву и смотрел как удаляется ее хрупкая фигурка.

     На протяжении книги Брида узнает тайны магии, традиции предков, попадает в свое прошлое, блуждает в потустороннем мире и узнает о том что она – ведьма - как и ее предки - обладающая особым Даром.

     Это третья книга П.Коэльо которую я прочла (первыми были «Алхимик» и «Дневник мага»). Обложка и название «Бриды» наводили меня на мысль о мистике и «потустороннем мире». Я не любитель книг о магии и мистике,  не смотрю фильмы ужасов, и не понимаю Хеллоуин. Задумалась о ее прочтении лишь только потому что мне понравился «алхимик». «Брида» написана очень доступно, читается легко – быстро переключаешься на чтение и отвлекаешься от ежедневной суеты. Как и в предыдущих книгах, автор отталкивается от всего материального и переносит читателя в мир чувств и познания самого себя.
